Can the rented stairlift be extended if my mobility needs change?

Yes, a rented stairlift can usually be extended when your mobility needs change, provided the stairlift remains suitable and the hire agreement is renewed. An extension is not normally automatic. The hire period, ongoing charges, servicing arrangements and notice requirements will need to be confirmed. If you know that the stairlift will be needed for longer than originally expected, contacting us early gives time to complete the review and avoid an unnecessary gap in cover.

Your changing needs may require a reassessment. A change in strength, balance, flexibility, weight-bearing ability or confidence can affect how safely you use the stairlift. We may review matters such as:

• Whether you can still transfer safely on and off the seat.
• Whether the seat, armrests, footrest and controls remain comfortable and practical.
• Whether a swivel seat, powered option or another adjustment would make use safer.
• Whether anyone else in the household needs to use the stairs or the equipment.
• Whether the stairlift remains suitable for the staircase and the available space.

Some changes can be managed by adjusting the existing stairlift or providing an alternative accessory. Other changes may mean that the current model is no longer appropriate. For example, if transferring has become more difficult or your posture and support needs have altered, a different seat configuration or stairlift may be more suitable.
