Installing a reconditioned stairlift involves a home assessment, careful selection and preparation of the equipment, secure fitting to the staircase, and comprehensive safety testing. The installer then demonstrates the stairlift and explains its controls, charging and safe operation before completing the handover.

Home assessment and stair survey

The process starts with an assessment of your staircase and the person who will use the stairlift. The installer considers the shape, width and construction of the stairs, available space at the top and bottom, landing access, nearby doors and any potential obstructions. They will also discuss the user’s mobility, posture, transfer ability and preferred controls.

This assessment determines whether a straight or curved stairlift is suitable and which seat, rail configuration and comfort features are appropriate. A curved staircase generally requires a rail made for that particular layout, while a straight stairlift may be selected from suitable reconditioned stock and adjusted to fit the staircase. The installer will also check the position of the electrical supply and charging points.

Preparing the reconditioned stairlift

Before installation, the stairlift is matched to the requirements identified during the assessment. Reconditioned equipment is not simply taken from one home and fitted unchanged in another. Components are inspected, cleaned and serviced, and any necessary parts are replaced or adjusted so that the stairlift is suitable for the intended installation.

The installer confirms that the rail, carriage, seat and controls are compatible with each other and with your staircase.
